The name ‘Vicolo del Salto’ comes from a 16th century Palermo love myth.

Pietro Pezzinga and Camilla Vassallo Gravina were two lovers who had a passionate but secret relationship, as she was already married. One night, when her husband returned, Don Pietro was forced to flee. In order to save the honour of the woman he loved, he advised her to cry "thief", and to escape Don Pietro made a "prodigious leap" from the parapet of the loggia to the roof of the building opposite.

As a result of this extraordinary feat, the alley, which is now called "Vicolo Lungarini", was named "Vicolo del Salto".
